 The Bellaire House

&

Interview with Kristen Lee

Kristin Lee is a well known psychic in the paranormal world but the thing she is mostly known for is being the owner of one of the most haunted houses in America, the Bellaire House in Ohio!

The Bellaire House has been the center of attention for TV shows such as “My Ghost Story” and “Paranormal Lockdown.” She has also written the book: 1699 Belmont Street: A Portal to Hell.

Today Kristen Lee has turned a negative into a positive, which is why I so admire her and couldn’t wait to meet her. She turned the house into the Bellaire House Afterlife Research Center; she allows it to be used for paranormal investigators who wish to collect paranormal data.

So how did this all begin? That is a good question. The house was built in 1849 by Jacob Heatherington who owned 666 acres in Bellaire. He built the home to look like a dollhouse for his granddaughter who would later inherit his well-known coal mine and was the first female coal mine owner, Aliza Heatherington. Many generations of Heatheringtons have lived in the home.

But on July 4, 2005, Kristen Lee and her family moved into what Kristin thought was her dream home. But several months later she had an experience that changed her life forever.

One night, Kristin fell asleep on the couch in her family room (this is the same couch she sat on while speaking with me during our interview) when she woke up in the middle of the night to the feeling of her leather couch cushion under her feet being pressing down. Kristin opened her eyes to find an apparition of a man (all in gray) sitting at her feet looking at her. This is how Kristin described him: he had a scowl on his face, a light beard and mustache, and was dressed in attire from another time period, possibly the 1800s. She says the man was very tall and skinny and looked at her for what seemed like minutes as if she weren’t allowed to be there. “As if to say (this was) his area and how dare she be there.”

This made Kristin upset (as anyone would be) and she screamed out, “Who are you?” But the man just sat still and continued to look at her. Minutes later, Kristin said he got up and just walked away into the house and disappeared into thin air right in front of her.

Suddenly the house wasn’t the same. The family went from experiencing nothing to having a negative paranormal experience every day. “We would have a paranormal experience in one room for a week until we moved out and shut its door. Then (they would) all move into a different room and the same thing would happen there, … until we were out of rooms.” Kristin packed their bags and moved out of the house. Shortly after, her relationship ended with her boyfriend. She believes the house divided her family.

Shortly after that, Kristin rented the house out but renters didn’t stay long. I asked if past renters would report paranormal activity to which she answered: “Oh, yes! We had five to six renters over a few short years but the last renters came in with seven living family members and left the house with only three living members and in a hurry!”

Unfortunately, she did end up having to move back into the haunted house twice but eventually decided she was done with the house. But word had gotten out that it was haunted and in a small town that isn’t good when it comes to trying to sell a house! So Kristin filed for bankruptcy and hoped the bank would take the house and her life would get back to normal. But she realized the bank wouldn’t take the house due to the same problem she experienced.

Kristin then tried to settle with the lenders who ended up accepting her bankruptcy claim, which ended up being a two and half month brawl. But Kristen didn’t give up! She realized that everything happens for a reason and stood strong, remaining positive! Now all is settled and she has the house.

The house had changed her life, but she now donates it back to her great love: the paranormal community, which supports her and is very loyal. Today, Kristin hosts paranormal groups and guests, inviting them to investigate the Bellaire House and uses it for the paranormal research community helping others learn about the paranormal from the haunted house. Over the years many people who support her have donated items for her cause including beds and other household items. She is very thankful for those items and her supporters!

I interviewed Kristin Lee on July 15, 2020, after meeting her at a small paranormal event in town. Something told me that I had to be at that event that day for I had to meet her. When I first saw her, I saw a beautiful, energetic, bright and bubbly woman who looked like the real deal. She told the truth and the whole truth for a the greater good. She understands that there isn’t any reason not to. I love Kristin! We hit it off and formed a fast friendship right away and she invited me to her place and let me interview her. The house was calm while I was there, to which she says, “It is until it isn’t, if you know what I mean.” Yes, I did!

So would I recommend you to visit the Bellaire House? Oh yes! In fact, I interviewed Mike Simpson with Ghost Hunts USA who also is Kristin’s good friend and he told me a story of when he was left alone for just a few minutes in the attic and was rushed by an unknown but unmistakably evil spirit residing in the attic!

Kristin and her family with Mike Simpson in front of Bellaire House

“The spirit came right up in my face as if ’challenging me’ for about 10 to 15 seconds. You have to come to the house with an open mind and you WILL experience something!” said Mike.

So yes, definitely visit the Bellaire House and experience one of the most haunted houses in America for yourself! And don’t forget to meet Kristin, too! Her personality brings even more out in the home. You will see!

STEVE HUMMEL’S:

Archive of-the Afterlife:

The National Museum of the Paranormal

Have you ever wanted to visit a Haunted Museum? If so, make sure to visit Steve Hummel at the Archive of-the Afterlife: “The National Museum of the Paranormal” in West Virginia. Steve is the jolly owner of the wonderful museum of haunted relics and more! The haunted museum is located in an old school once known as the Sanford Elementary School. But it is now being used as offices and rental space and has been renamed: The Sanford Community Center.

When I asked Steve, “How does one start a haunted museum?” Steve simply replied: “I started the Archive of-the Afterlife: ‘The National Museum of the Paranormal’ because I was always fascinated with the paranormal, haunted items, ghost stories and the people who are involved with it. I had a diner and wanted to tap into the local tourism so I took my want to collect these items and place them into an empty room in the diner, thus creating the Archive!”

          Hummel’s most haunted items are:

A portrait of a woman named Annie. Steve believes this female spirit followed him home after he saw the haunted item in an antique store. He also said he heard her call his name twice. Steve later acquired the piece and it is now on display in his museum.

An execution cap from the West Virginia State Penitentiary that nine men died wearing.

A doll called The Hope Doll which can be found in the second room of the museum across the hall. This item was removed from a local house by an antique dealer in town. This doll is oddly tall and sits alone in a dark closet. Steve turned on the light in the small space to show me the doll which was very creepy. I took a picture and dodged away from this item.

Hummel also has lots of other creepy and rather interesting historical items from the military and U.S. history that you might enjoy.

In addition, Hummel informed me that the old school building the museum is in is, in fact, haunted!

Hummel stated he has evidence to support that the person who the school is named after, Alice Sanford (the principal of the Third Street School nearby) roams the halls of the school. Steve and his paranormal team, Paranormal Quest, film their investigations and air them on YouTube where they have found evidence of the former principal in the building! They believe she is still carrying out her day-to-day tasks as principal! So check out his YouTube Channel and watch!

I, however, had to check this out for myself since I was there and made the long drive from Ohio! Of course, I came ready to investigate!

So I set out with my friend Mike Simpson (fellow ghost hunter of team Ghost Hunts USA) and we set up our equipment on the first floor behind the gym in a small connecting hall. Mike had an ovilus, which is an electronic gadget with a voice synthesizer chip, a small dictionary of arbitrarily selected words, and an algorithm to arbitrarily select words based on sensor readings from, say, an EMF Reader. We began asking questions to find out who was with us in the hallway. These words came through: “alley” and “ground” as my EMF Reader lit up moving from 0 to the middle near 3. These words made total sense to Mike and me!

The small hallway, which was a connecting hall, could be thought of as a small alleyway from the looks of its layout. And as for ground, Steve did tell me that the whole area was considered sacred ground by Native Americans! This was really awesome! We think that is what the spirit was trying to communicate to us. And as I started to write what was happening in my notebook I always bring when I investigate, the ovilus said: “wrote.”  Mike answered the spirit back saying, “Yes, she is a writer and she came to write a story.”

We pressed on, asking more questions and we got the word “skip!” Mike then began to skip a little in the hallway for the possible child spirit communicating with us and as he skipped in the hall, my EMF Reader lit up moving all the way up to 5, which is as far as the reader can go! Whoever the spirit was they definitely liked what Mike was doing and showed him by lighting up my EMF Reader all the way!

A few moments later, the ovilus said the name “Kaitlyn” as we asked a little boy named Ethan (who was 10 years and just joined us along with his mother Jennifer) to roll a ball we placed on the floor for a child spirit. After this we got the words: “measure” and “blind” from the ovilus as my EMF moved up toward 3.

After a while of having no activity, we decided to move upstairs; however, as we were walking upstairs carrying our paranormal equipment, the ovilus said, “up.”

On the second floor, we walked to the end of the hall near an exit door and set up our things in front of a door that said “Teacher” on it. As Mike got out his Ghost Finder App on his iPhone, a spirit came through his ovilus saying, “Let me out,” which was the first full sentence we received. A moment later, Mike saw a Red Orb to his left on his phone app. He stated the color red meant “safety,” which might have been a spirit who was concerned about safety during its life or in the halls of the school. For example, a safety monitor or a teacher. I thought that was interesting and a good suggestion.

Ten minutes later a blue orb showed up on his app getting close to Jennifer (the mother of Ethan) who was sitting in a chair outside the “Teacher” room. This was ironic because Mike had just asked the spirit if the person we were speaking to was a teacher. Apparently, the color blue is for a person who is a guide, and teachers are certainly guides! After the blue orb disappeared Mike, got out my flashlight and asked if the spirit could turn it on. His ovilus suddenly came to life and said: “I could!”

Mike and I asked Ethan to walk with the flashlight to the other end of the hall, which he did, and then he placed the flashlight on the floor in front of a drinking fountain. Then, we asked the spirit to turn on the light, but to our disappointment it never did.

However, we did get a lot of interesting words from the ovilus such as: “caught,” “bad,” “deceit,” “knife” and then the name “Christopher” as well as “marker” and “faith.” Perhaps a negative incident that took place in the hall was coming through. As for the name Christopher and marker, I think that might have been the name of the teacher whose door we were near. Either way, Steve Hummel was RIGHT! The old school was surely haunted!

So would I recommend going to see Steve Hummel’s Archive of-the Afterlife: “The National Museum of the Paranormal?” Oh yeah, I do! Check out Steve’s haunted collection of items and do your own little investigation! General admission is $5 and check out the museum’s website for hours because they do change according to season. Steve also presents many events throughout the year, so keep an eye out for upcoming events!

I also want to add how wonderful Steve Hummel is! He is the nicest guy you’ll ever met! Steve really struck me as a young jolly guy almost with a Santa Claus-like charm! I came in and he helped set me up always making sure I was comfortable during his interview, AND he even gave me a signed copy of his new book: Shades of Ether & Hints of Madness: Poems & Shorthand!! A wonderful little book!

Steve is so creative and awesome. I really support him and all his efforts with his many missions and ideas. He never has a dull moment, just like me! We odd ducks have to stick together and I support him in his efforts. He was so kind to me and I was truly honored to have interviewed him! Last Time at Bennett's!

My Last Investigation
at Bennett’s:

Bennett’s Publical Family Sports Grill in Miamisburg, Ohio, is one of my most favorite places – for some great food AND some entertaining paranormal investigations. I have conducted investigations twice before at Bennett’s, but this third time would turn out to be my last look at the spirits residing there.

I had been scheduled to visit the restaurant with the Night Stalkers Paranormal Research Team from Kentucky. The plan was for the group to rid Bennett’s of a menacing ghost living in a room on the second floor. I decided to make a pre-visit to help ease the mind of my friend and manager of Bennett’s. She was concerned the Kentucky group would prompt the spirit residing upstairs in a small apartment to become angry. She was afraid that the energy-sucking spirit, that once frightened her son, knew the group was coming to expel it from the restaurant. She wanted to confirm that she was doing the right thing by having the Kentucky group come in … and, frankly, so dd I. We also wanted to be sure that I felt the same thing I had in the past regarding the spirit so the group performed the right ceremony to get the spirit to leave. We both needed the comfort. Unfortunately, what we got left us with more questions.
The manager and I walked into the small apartment and I set up all my devices. Soon I began asking the spirit questions. I had been instructed by Barry Gaunt, manager of Night Stalkers Paranormal Research Team, to try to find out if the spirit was evil.  This is what happened:
I had a temperature gauge on the floor, an EMF reader, and two voice recorders. I took two separate recordings within half an hour of each other; the second time, I came back and asked the same questions again to be sure. I asked Barry’s questions to find out if the spirit was an evil entity. I also asked some of my own and sent them both to Barry for him to listen, since I was in a loud restaurant. During my questions, I heard the following. But only during the first recording. The second taping didn’t get any replies, but I did record a temperature reduction in the room.

Questions and Replies:
What is your name? Harry (same name I got last time).
What is your purpose? “No. Hardball. To hurt people.”
What is your ID number?  “57” but Barry heard 8 on the recording.
Why are you here? Not fooling anyone. Move around. Hide.
Do you like the manager’s son, Ben? “Yes, Ben.”
Why do you like Ben? “Young. Energy.”
Do you like to Ben’s energy? “You fool.”

After the questions, I had some light interaction with the temperature gauge and EMF reader. I asked the spirit if it liked my temperature gauge and if it could please lower the temperature in the room noting to the spirit that it was now 72.17 degrees F and if it could please take it down to 71. The spirit did, in fact, slowly lower the temperature in the room to 71, not once, but twice! The second time, about 10 minutes later, I asked it to lower the temperature again, and it, again, slowly lowered the temperature down to 71 but this time it turned off my temperature gauge when it hit 71! When it turned off the temperature gauge, my EMF reader quickly went off for 30 seconds, which was the only time it did.
About a half-hour later, I used the same equipment and asked the same questions; however, the spirit only lowered the temperature in the room from 72.97 degrees F to 71 degrees. This was the only interaction with the spirit we had. Somehow, the air or energy in the apartment had completely changed. It almost seemed to me like it had gone into hiding!
However, a strange coincidence happened when I was packing up my things. The manager had told me in the past that she always looks for pennies from her mother and dimes from her father as signs that they are with her and supporting her in her life. This helps her stay strong.
Interestingly enough, when we were wrapping up the last session of questions, the manager found a penny in the middle of the room and a dime on the right side of the room under a window. I had completed a full EMF sweep of the room just before and I did not see them lying on the carpet. We believe that they showed up later after my sweep when we left the room for the short break. No one but the two of us had been in the room because it was locked. I even saw the manager lock the door after we left the first time for our break. The only time it had been unlocked was when we were inside the apartment.
While enjoying my pizza and pretzel bits (of course I couldn’t come to Bennett's without getting an order). I was looking through the pictures I had taken and, disappointingly, did not find any new evidence regarding the spirit. I told the manager that this time I believed the spirit didn’t feel as strong to me energy-wise as it had before, and I think it was because the space has sat empty for awhile.
This time, it felt like a low energy when entering the apartment, which was a big change from the last time I was there. The first time I entered the apartment, the energy really hit me hard in the face. It felt like an aggressive, negative, angry, energy-consuming spirit even as I stood outside the room and then walked into the room. This time it was different. It seemed angry but because of confusion and it hadn’t any energy since it hasn’t had a guest in its space for awhile.
Unfortunately, around noon on the day the Kentucky group was supposed to come into town, I received a call from Bennett’s manager telling me that one of the owners was unwilling to let us come. We agreed that the best thing to do was to keep the apartment door locked to protect others from the energy-taking spirit. Maybe, one day the spirit will get bored, being alone and without energy, and leave on its own.
The next day, the manager sent me a message telling me that she was unpacking a bag she had let sit for a few days and found two pennies and a dime. Maybe it’s fate.

My Visit to Moonville:

Every once in awhile I get a suggestion from a reader informing me about a haunted location to visit, but the idea of visiting Moonville, Ohio, has been made by MANY readers!

Being from Ohio, I really wanted to go but when Covid-19 hit, my whole world was turned upside down and we were in quarantine for three months. Sometimes I still can’t believe it all happened. So needless to say, I couldn’t go for awhile.

So, on Saturday, June 20, 2020, I was ready to hit the road with my good friend and fellow sensitive, Amy Branam. Nothing like two girls hitting the highway for a little day trip to a haunted location! Woo hoo!

Two hours and twenty-minutes later, we pulled onto a gravel road, winding our way through a cliffside-forest trying to find traces of an old town that’s been taken over by trees and fallen rocks.

We pulled up to a trail and hiked our way to an iron bridge that was covered in a rock path all the way to a tunnel. Amy and I found out later that we could have driven my car right up to the bridge, parked and walked a short way. But no! We had to take the hardest, must dangerous hike there was, almost falling numerous times, again and again. At one point, I tried to turn around and ask Amy if she was okay, while I moved forward hiking up a mud-filled hill with pointy rocks coming out of its path, almost falling backward. After that, I just said, “Amy, are you okay back there, because if I turn around to look, I will fall!” She replied that she was fine and told me to not hurt myself. Soon we reached the bridge. THANK GOD!! “Wow,” I thought, “that was a scary trail.”

Walking towards the tunnel, I was truly amazed! I have only seen pictures of it myself up until that point and NEVER realized how HUGE it was! Pictures on the internet sure didn’t reveal its actual size. It really was an impressive sight to take in. We both were surprised and stopped to take several pictures of it. The tunnel that says “Moonville” on it is made of stone and really looks beautiful and surprisingly intact for its age!

Here is a little Moonville history: Moonville was a small town in a forestry area, now an abandoned ghost town, in Vinton County, Ohio. Little remains of this former mining and railroad community except a few foundations, a cemetery, and an abandoned railroad tunnel. The tunnel is legendary for its numerous ghost stories and tragedies involving many deaths mostly because the town had no roads so people were forced to walk the railroad tracks to get from place to place.

One story I have heard time and time again is about a male ghost known as the Brakeman. A young man that was hit by a train in the tunnel and he was instantly killed. Now people say they see his shadowy figure as he haunts the tunnel day and night not realizing that he is actually dead.

Also reported is the Lavender Lady, who is a thin, elderly woman, spirit that is hunched over as she walks the far side of the tracks. As she walks, she leaves behind the scent of lavender. People report that the spirit of the woman looks as if she is falling off the track, only to vanish into the air.

Another story is about an Engineer who caused a train-wreck in 1880 dying instantly inside the tunnel. This ghost comes back to haunt the stony walls day and night.

And lastly, and I think the most interesting ghost rumored in Moonville, is The Bully Above the Tunnel. This is a male spirit who, when he was alive, got intoxicated and was reportedly murdered one evening near the tunnel. He is said to walk above the tunnel.

However, when I looked up this story, I actually found more deaths reported in the tunnel and on the bridge. By 1920, six people had been killed on the bridge (the same bridge Amy and I walked on to get to the tunnel) or inside the tunnel. The last death supposedly reported was in 1986 when a 10-year-old girl was reportedly struck by a car on the bridge; however, Moonville was abandoned in 1947 when the coal mines closed down, so that doesn’t make sense. By 1960, all the buildings were gone, and little was left of the tiny town in Ohio. All that can be seen today is its grand stone tunnel and what’s left (which isn’t much at all) of the town’s cemetery.

Amy and I walked through the tunnel and you could definitely feel a presence inside, but to me it felt like a presence of the past. Simply history. There could be a spirit or two, but they certainly weren’t coming out to talk with us.

After investigating the Moonville Tunnel, we decided to move on to the cemetery! We walked back to my car and drove up the small, gravel, winding road toward the town’s cemetery. This turned out to be the scariest event of the day! Will we, or won’t we, make it! All I have to say is be sure to drive an SUV or truck on your adventure to Moonville because you WILL certainly need it, or you WON’T make it up the hill! Wow! Also, when you get to the top, be sure to park safely because there is limited space.

After we arrived at the top of the woodsy hill and parked safely, we made our way to the cemetery where 13 gravestones, lasting through much weather and time, still stood. The rest have been lost to time and the forest.

I was hoping we might find some ghosts in the Moonville Cemetery, a beautiful and peaceful spot on the slanted hillside. However, I am sad to report that not much happened, but my iPhone camera froze. That was strange! Whenever I lifted my camera and started to point and shoot to take a photo of a tombstone, my camera would turn gray. Soon, a van pulled up and two nice ladies came up the hill and parked. Later on they were talking to us and offered to take a picture of us. I handed her my iPhone to take a picture and the same thing happened again, my screen turned gray! Now, those of you who have an iPhone know that the screen doesn’t turn gray when it malfunctions or freezes up, it turns black! So that was odd but sadly it was the only thing (possibly) paranormal that happened on our trip to Moonville.

So would I recommend taking a trip to Moonville, Ohio? I think so!

Even though we didn’t experience much, simply going for the fun of seeing what is left of a small, abandoned, mining town in the middle of a forest in Ohio was worth it! You won’t regret it!

The Gill House:

Eight years ago several volunteers got together to save The Gill House in Galion, Ohio. Brenda Treisch and Jane Baker, who I interviewed during my recent visit to The Gill House, told me about their passion for saving the beautiful house that once was an elite home in Galion.

While the two women spoke, I could truly hear the emotion in their voices and passion for saving the property. With several other volunteers they bought The Gill House and now hold paranormal investigations and historical tours to fund its renovation. Their hope is to restore it to its original glory and even put the large four-pillared porch, which was destroyed by a past owner, back on the front of the house.

“How did you know the house was haunted?” I asked Brenda during my visit.

“Actually, a man we knew who was interested in the paranormal offered right away to come over stating, ‘We’ll come in and see if you’re haunted!’” Brenda thought: “Okay, and if there is a public interest, maybe this could fund the house.

“Luckily, the man found some ghosts in the lovely home, so we have been taking paranormal groups through the house ever since.” However, the group is really careful about guests being respectful of their resident ghosts in The Gill House by requiring guests to sign a waiver and by keeping a close eye on visitors during investigations.

“Have you ever had a paranormal experience here?” I asked Brenda. “Yes, she said. “I saw a dustball-looking entity that you could see through that was three feet off the floor move from the Sitting Room into the hallway. I also have heard things in the house a lot.”

Brenda’s husband, Brian Treisch, has also had similar experiences in the house but upstairs on the second floor, saw a man on the back stairs, and felt like he was touched while in the attic! One time, when Brian was in the attic with a paranormal group at night, he was standing near the large Christmas tree that was in storage there when he felt something scratch him. He thought he may have run into the tree; however, the paranormal group was using equipment that shed enough light for him to see that he was not close enough to the tree to be rubbing against it. That’s when Brain realized he must have been scratched by something else – something unseen. After Brian’s experience, the staff decided to just leave the tree in parlor after the next holiday. Now the Christmas tree stands in the parlor on the first floor all year long.

“Jane,” I asked the other volunteer sitting on a large Victorian armed chair, “have you experienced anything paranormal in the house?”
“Oh yes! I have experienced the most activity because I am the one who gives the paranormal group tours. I saw an Indian in the basement when I was with a paranormal group. I went upstairs and described him to another volunteer …  and was told that it sounded like I saw Soloman Jahnwcoke (also known as Johnny Cake), who is a well-known Indian, (who) was last seen stopping at the property on his way out of town. Then he rode into the sunset never to be seen again. I remember him well,” Jane said, “He looked me straight in the eyes.”

As Jane related her story, I could definitely tell she was emotional about what she had seen. Jane says that she saw the man in the far back room in the basement.
Brenda and Jan also claim that while in the basement, paranormal investigators regularly ask the spirits there: “Is Jahnwcoke here with us?” While reviewing voice recordings, those investigators often hear a “Yes” response.

Jane and Brenda claim that all volunteers at the house have experienced some form of paranormal activity.

The property itself has an interesting past. A cemetery used to be next to the property and when the home was being built, workers found graves that needed to be moved. Today, the volunteers claim that some of the paranormal groups that have visited often get the names of children sprits from the cemetery during their paranormal investigations. The volunteers think these children spirits also reside in The Gill House.

What’s also interesting is there have been three homes all owned and built by the Gill family on the same land! The original structure was a log home that was later torn down. Next, a Federal Style plain house with two stories was built on the site. Years later, Bloomer Gill married Nellie Stewart and came into some inheritance money. The couple picked the second house up off its foundation, moved it down the street, and built a new home, The Gill House, which is what you see today. Bloomer and Nellie had four children: Mary, Isabelle, Mina, and Jimmy.

Bloomer was known to hide from his wife in a corner of the attic while drinking. He even went blind because of his drinking problem. Today, that corner in the attic is called The Grumpy Corner, and it is a hotspot for paranormal activity. When interviewing Jane, she told me that she was called “A Bitch” by Bloomer on a ghost box during a night investigation while observing a paranormal group.

Unfortunately, none of the four children wanted the home after their father, Bloomer, died so Nellie, Bloomer’s wife, moved back into the Federal Style home  that had been moved down the street and which she still owned.

Nellie then sold The Gill House to Dean and Bonnie Talbott. Dean moved his elderly mother in with the couple, but Dean’s wife, Bonnie, didn’t get along with his mother, so the mother built a wall between them. The wall divided the upstairs where Ava, the mother, lived, from the downstairs, where her son and daughter-in-law lived.

Dean’s mother died in the home and years later Dean died of a heart attack at an Ohio State football game. Ava remarried a shipman and no longer wanted the house. She convinced a high-society couple, Phillip and Jean Hesby, to move to Galion and buy the home. But the couple was unhappy in the town and let the home fall into disrepair.

Other deaths occurred on the property throughout the years when it was a log home and Federal Style home as well.

The Gill House has several paranormal hotspots, including the fireplace that a volunteer was restoring. The volunteer said she felt a presence behind her. She turned and saw a translucent woman in white, wearing an old fashion dress looking at her, as if the apparition wondered what the volunteer was doing to the fireplace. The volunteer believes the woman was Nellie Gill, the wife of the former owner of The Gill House. She thinks Nellie was just making sure that the volunteer wasn’t hurting the property but restoring it. Then the vision slipped around the corner and was gone.

Jimmy is often spotted in the house in a child form and is known to be the prankster of the house, a role he reportedly filled in life. “So it makes sense,” says Jane, The Gill House volunteer.

Other areas of paranormal activity are:

        the back stairs where Brian Treisch saw an apparition of a man;
        the master bedroom on the second floor;
        the library;
        the dining room;
the parlor, where a figure was spotted in the window. Other people passing by have also seen figures in the windows in the home while the volunteers are gone.

So did I experience anything at the Gill House? Good question!

While giving me a tour, Brenda Triesch took me to the basement and began showing me around; however, a light that normally comes on automatically wasn’t turned on. As we moved closer and moved around to see if it would come on it still didn’t. Then poor Brenda stepped out into the darkness and fell into the mud and as soon as she fell, letting out a small shriek, the light turned on! So that was my first experience at The Gill House.

I started in the attic after interviewing Jane and asking her where she thought the most paranormal activity in house took place? Her answer was intriguing. “The attic.”
Why, I asked her. To which she answered, “You’ll see when you get up there!” Hmmm…this I had to check out.
Grumpy Corner
My friend and fellow paranormal investigator, Evan, sat on the attic floor while I sat on a large, red bucket asking questions. We didn’t get any response until I asked Bloomer to show us he was really there by making a loud knock or stomping sound. Then I picked up my right foot and stomped it really hard on the attic floor. Suddenly a huge vibrating stomp came from underneath my tennis shoe. I looked at Evan and was so surprised to get a sound that loud I could hardly form the words fast enough saying, “Did you...?” as my mouth gaped open and eyes widened. “Oh yeah I did!” he said, “right under my tuchis,” as he smiled. We both had felt the floor vibrate and as a paranormal investigator I have never gotten a sound that loud nor felt something with so much power! We didn’t get any other response, but now I know the rumors are definitely accurate. Bloomer was certainly in his Grumpy Corner.

The second place we went was the second floor where Dean Talbott’s mother, Ava, lived. Remember, Ava didn’t like her daughter-in-law, Bonnie. We were walking around the hallway as Evan asked, “You don’t want me to be here? Do you want me to leave?” When my EMF-Reader lit up. I also heard a voice at the same time that was female say, “GO AWAY!” It was really loud! The air in the hallway seemed to change after that.
2nd Floor Hallway
Soon we entered the room that the original owners used as their master bedroom. There are three windows in the room, which is shaped like the oval office in the White House. The windows are evenly spaced apart around the outside wall of the room. The main, front window, in the middle of the three, is the focal point of the room. I walked up to the middle window and looked out while saying to Evan, “I wonder if I can see the second house built on this property down the street from here.” That was when we heard tapping on the outside of the glass of the window toward my right. Evan and I both stopped short and looked at each other. I asked him if he had heard it, too, and he said he had.
Middle window I looked out of. Window to the right we heard the tapping on from outside (we were on the 2nd floor).
After that we moved back to the basement where Jane saw the Indian, Soloman Johnwcoke. We started an EMF sweep around the basement and were asking questions when Evan would suddenly get swift EMF spikes but they would vanish then come back again. However, my EMF-reader wasn’t going off at all which was strange. This happened again for several minutes in the same area where Brenda had stepped into the mud and the light swiftly turned on.

Then we decided to go into the library on the first floor and put our EMF readers on the large dining table that is in the room and asked, “Is anyone here with us?” Evan and I both told the spirits in the room who we were. Then we asked if someone was with us and if so, could they please make a sound? We demonstrated a noise by tapping on the table two times. In response, we heard two taps on the wall near the bottom of the windowsill. Then the EMF-reader lit up two times in a row. We stopped and said, “Hello” then it lit up fully for two minutes without stopping as we heard what sounded like a conversation from really far away between a male and female. The odd thing was it sounded like it was coming from the ceiling!

Lastly, we investigated the stairs but didn’t get a response so we walked upstairs again to the second floor where we simply sat down in the middle of the floor and began talking. Fifteen minutes in we were laughing and telling jokes when we heard tapping on the wall behind me. Soon the tapping started to move around the oval room tapping between the windows as it moved around the room, until it reached the bathroom behind Evan where it tapped once. The tap seemed like it was at the same height as it was in the master bedroom. As this was happening, Evan and I stopped laughing and looked right at each other hearing the sounds. When it stopped, Evan said, “I heard that!” The room went silent so we began speaking again and after a few minutes the tapping happened again the same as it had before.

So would I suggest a visit to The Gill House? HECK YEAH, I WOULD! If you love the paranormal or ghost stories this house won’t disappoint! You can book a paranormal tour and do an investigation by yourself or with a group.
Even if you don’t like the paranormal, you can go for an historical tour of the house! The house is so beautiful and there is so much history! Thomas Edison’s wife was friends with Nellie Gill, and the Edison couple visited the house often.
Henry Ford
Also, Henry Ford was noted as stopping in for lunch with his black Ford automobile! In addition, Harvey Firestone and Warren G. Harding also visited The Gill House. There is so much awesome history to love about this gorgeous property. Visit and enjoy
